5 apple facts you may not know and great holiday books

Amazon page

Hi all, it's a time of cool weather, beautiful colors and wonderful autumn fruit. When I can, I like to get a hot cup of decaf coffee or tea, a piece of warm apple pie and a good book. I'm excited because there are so many new releases to choose from this year. I'm making my list from Amazon.

No food acknowledges the conflict between a man and a woman better than the iconic apple. When I needed an idea for a farm in Her Country Heart Christmas Edition, an organic apple farm fit the criteria. The apple signifies the struggle between the male and female and the temptation of being drawn to the opposite sex when you know it’s only going to cause trouble in your life. How many of us have been attracted to someone and thought, “I shouldn’t go there, but…” The apple stands between my characters and sparks fly because they have different goals.

What is your favorite apple? Leave a comment for a chance to win an eBook novella.
Here are five facts you may not know about the apple:

1.The Adam’s apple was named that because when, in the bible, Adam was tempted by Eve and took a bite from her apple, he choked and couldn’t swallow it. According to the myths, that’s why a man’s larynx is larger than a woman’s.

2. Johnny Appleseed born John Chapman (September 26, 1774 – March 18, 1845), was an American pioneer nursery man who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania, Ontario, Ohio Indiana, and Illinois as well as the northern counties of present-day West Virginia (Citation Wikipedia).

3. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. According to research on the internet the saying came from a Pembrokeshire proverb c1866. “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you'll keep the doctor from earning his bread." Other variations can be found from 1913 onward.

4. Apples varieties, there are over 7,000 varieties from as far away as New Zealand, Australia and Japan. BTW, the Crab Apple in from the US and the Macintosh Apple is from Canada.

5. Vitamins in the apple, there are many including A, C, K,  among others. One apple can supply much of the needed vitamins, so saying to eat one every day is close to the mark.
